Andy's End of
season Message:
At just past
3.30 pm yesterday, the chequered flag fell to signal the end of another
fantastic locost season, and what a season it has been, beginning at Snetterton
way back in March. Since then we have had 14 rounds and 8 different winners, of
those 3 won for the first time ever, Alistair Garratt, Matt Cherrington and
yesterday David Black. Other Winners were Ed Pither, Rhys Owen, Aaron Bailey,
and our top 2 drivers Scott Mittell and David Bartholomew, who, coming into the
last round yesterday were separated by a mere 17 points, So the championship was
far from over, however try as Scott did to pull away David finished comfortably
sixth which was sufficient to retain his title….
Congratulations David Bartholomew…
Notable mentions this year include our other Podium finishers (in no particular
order)
Tom Coller, Richard Jenkins, James Pinkerton, Richard Dixon, and Simon Wood.
Vicky Pickles, Sam Bradley and Alex Von Erheim are now starting to find form and
I am sure are looking to improve and move into the top 6 next year.
We welcomed 13 new Locost racers and special congratulations go to Campbell
Cassidy for winning the highest place Novice award….No bad for a wee man…
The TMC driver of the day award has added an extra dimension to the racing won
by many deserved individuals, aligned to the Bar-B-Q evenings I believe the
locost formula is without question THE closest, friendliest and most exciting
formula on the 750 calendar.
And Finally………
A massive thank you to the Locost Committee members who have aided and supported
me during this….erm…..Challenging year, Rich D and Chris H for their support and
pretty much the rest of the locosters who at some time during the year have
helped me to repair my car enabling me to race.
Behind every
man is a good Woman and my dearly beloved Elaine has been as much a part of the
Locost rep role as I have…( she’s still not getting a new kitchen though!!)
Signing off as
always,
Andy p.

Mallory Park Race meeting - 5th April 2009
Andy P - "I was looking forward to mallory as last year I finished in the
hairpin wall! So my aim this weekend was to get round in one piece and improve
on my just under 1 minute lap times, which I succeded in the qualifying session
with an outstanding 57.73 best lap which put me 10th on the grid for the heat.
My main aim was to get into the final and that mindset was responsible for my
dropping back a couple of places in the race, that said I was still on the grid
for a final in 19th position.
Locost Final. A good start enabled me to keep up with those in front and very
soon a battle between myself and 4 other cars began. A fantastic and enjoyable
race was had with a final position of 17th finishing a thoroughly enjoyable
weekend, in fact my best to date."
Rich D - "After the best possible start to the
season at snetterton, I came down to earth with an almighty bump. The second lap
of qualifying saw me eased onto the grass on the run up to the hairpin. With
effectively no braking I slid into the tyre wall and extricated myself from the
car to watch the rest of practice.
Closer investigations showed that the nearside track rod end had snapped, the
steering downlink was snapped and the steering rack was bent.
Amazingly with a lot of help from Andy, Chris and many people round the paddock,
especially Jason Gibbons who supplied most of the parts. The car was repaired
and I lined up on the back of the grid in 30th place. The start saw me climb up
through the pack. I made up 8 places or so in the first lap. By lap 7 I was up
to 16th. on lap 10 having just slipped past a competitor to take 15th when,
entering Gerrards, I lost it and parked unceremoniously in the barriers. Ho hum!
Roll on Brands"
Team Allied move on to Brands Hatch with Rich and
Chris flying the flag while Andy consolidates some finances and takes over the
role as spanner monkey and team motivator. See you at Brands

March 2009
Team Allied Motorsport were out in force at the first meeting of
the season at their local circuit, Snetterton. Andy, Chris & Richard were raring
to go for the first two rounds of the Locost championship. Qualifying early on
Sunday morning saw mixed fortune for the drivers, with a mixture of fuel, oil &
water being dropper on the track at various points, Richard surpassing all his
expectations by claiming 7th and 5th place grid positions for the two races.
Chris put in an excellent lap time near the end of the session to record 15th
best time for both races, however, lady luck deserted Andy and on lap three of
the qualifying session he exited Russells chicane waving his gear stick to the
massed spectators on his way to the pitlane. Andy still managed to secure the
25th & 24th positions on the grid out of the 36 entries.
Richards Races - "Race one saw me get a good start and
from 7th place on the grid move ahead of three cars ahead from the line and
first time down the main straight saw me draft past the remaining three cars
ahead to lead into the esses (never been there before). my lead lasted till
russels when I was passed by two or three cars on the start straight. A lap
later I was clipped into a spin on the first corner and caught by another
driver, leading to a red flag and restart. for the restarted race i lacked
confidence in the car having not been able to assess the damage. I completed the
race in 9th position acheiving my goal of a top ten finish"
"Race two saw me line up in fifth. An uncomplicated race saw me
move from 4th to eighth and back to fifth at the flag gaining on the lead pack
towards the end of the race. however, three of the four drivers ahead were given
time penalties for corner cutting which meant I was gifted a second place. I'm
certainly not complaining, but I would have liked to have gained it on the road.
Well that was my weekend, first top ten finish, first time in the lead and first
podium. I will come down to earth eventually."
Andy's day "For me snettetton had a mixture of the pointer good
luck mixed with Aaaargggghhh I dont believe it! So qualifiying lasted for
a total of 4 laps when approaching Russels I fumbled for what should have been
my gearstick only to find it laying on the passengers floor looking up at me
with an "i dont feel very well" expression, limped back to the pits in fourth
and waited for my lap times. 25 out of 36 entries, Angry head on for the start
overtaking 7 cars by end of first lap finally finishing 10 places up in 15th.
Race 2 started from 24, again the pointer luck (or lack of it) strikes
again with the clutch cable giving up the ghost 6 laps in after I had moved up
to 13th. Gearbox was also wrecked during the race due to manhandling the stick
in attempt to find gears. Ho Hum off to Mallory Park we go"
Chris's Locost Debut -
"The day started well with the car getting through scrutineering with no
problems and then during qualifying I managing to secure 15th on the grid from
half decent qualifying times.
Race 1 - My start was ok, lost a couple of places but gained two back so after
the first lap was still in the middle of the pack. After that it all started to
go downhill. I managed to go off at the first corner and by the time i got back
on to the track i had lost quite a few places. Ended up behind Andy P. This
could be interesting! However before we had the chance to do battle the race was
red flagged and at the restart, for some reason, I was placed at the back of the
grid. At the restart the car just didn't want to go. I could have walked faster.
I managed to get to the end of the pit-lane and thought i would pull over rather
than risk further damage so that was the end of that race!
Race 2 - there wasn't
much time between races but once the car cooled down it started, sounded ok with
no leaks so I lined up on the grid. Lights out....go! Well not for me! It just
chugged off the start, luckily no-one hit me but I went backwards! By the end of
the start/finish straight it seemed to come to life, not brilliant but it was
going. By this time I was dead last and at least 10seconds behind the next car.
I had 18 minutes to keep going. i just wanted to finish! I did manage to
overtake a number of cars and managed to finish 17th which wasn't too bad
considering the circumstances.
It's now time to check over the engine and get it running sweet again ready for
the next race which, for me, will be Brands Hatch. Unfortunately I'm having to
miss Mallory. but roll on end of April.

24th January 2009
All three Allied Motorsport Locosts were out
today at Snetterton for the Motor Sport Vision track day. The first run since
rebuild for Andy Pointer & Richard Dixon and the first run ever in his
locost for Chris Hubbard. The day was extremely cold and it proved very
difficult to get any heat into the tyres. Chris worked on a basic setup for the
car and declared himself pleased that the handling of the car had improved
enormously over the course of the day. Andy was very pleased with the way the
car was handling and felt he was really starting to find the limits of the cold
track by the end of the day. Richard spent the day evaluating the setup of the
car and his day was only marred by a slight hesitation/misfire in the corners
(this could have been due to the cold weather) and a slight overheating incident
which was solved before the end of the day.
1st January 2009 - Happy New Year
Allied Motorsport would like to wish all our
sponsors, supporters, friends and families a happy new year and hope we can have
a winning 2009
9th November 2008 -Rebuild time.
Currently, the cars are being given their winter
rebuilds. Andy has renewed the front end of his locost after his "off" at
Mallory and is also refreshing the suspension and bodywork. Chris is carrying
out an all round checkover on his new locost and making a few changes prior to
taking it out for a test session in the near future and Richard is looking to
change a few bits on the car as well as shed a little weight on both car &
driver.
9th November 2008
New Team Allied Motorsport website is launched.
