The Championship

Description, regulations and registration for the Locost formulae. 

LocostVehicle Type (section 5.2)

The cars are built to the design set out in Ron Champion’s book. The purchase of new cars which have been professionally-built is prohibited. All cars must be capable of passing an MoT on the day of the race.

Engine (section 5.7)

Ford Xflow 1300GT; modifications are limited to a rebore and basic ‘blue-printing’. Induction is the 1300GT carb or similar, but exhaust is free.

LocostSuspension (section 5.8)

Mods are limited to choice of spring-rates, single-adjustable steel-bodied dampers and free choice of anti-roll bars.

Brakes (Section 5.11)

Front is standard non-ventilated discs and caliper, rear is standard drums, both from Cortina, Escort or Capri; choice of friction material is free.

   

Transmission (section 5.9)

4-speed Escort or 4/5-speed Sierra Type 9 gearbox; standard ratios. Final drive Locostratio is free; no LSD or similar.

Tyres (Section 5.13)

The only permitted tyre is the Yokohama A539 in either 185/60 or 175/60 x 13".

Rounds (Section 1.5)

There are 14 rounds in the season, of which the best 12 count for the Championship.

Costs

LocostRegistration fee for the Season is £100.
750 Motor Club membership for 12 months is £50.00 including a joining fee.
